Founded in Berlin in 2000, a&o has grown into Europe’s largest hostel chain, with 46 locations across 31 cities in ten countries. Built on the belief that “everyone can travel,” a&o combines affordability with scale, serving a wide range of travelers from backpackers and families to business guests. As the company continues its rapid expansion, technology and distribution play a central role in supporting its next phase of growth.
We asked the team at a&o a few questions to understamd how they are preparing for 2026:
The Vision
How is a&o evolving to meet the needs of the modern traveler by 2026?
“We see the modern traveler as highly informed, value driven and digitally native. For 2026, our focus is on staying highly relevant across all distribution channels and touchpoints. From a commercial perspective, this means smarter segmentation, dynamic pricing and tailored offers that allow us to better match demand with the right product across different channels. On the marketing side, we are sharpening our positioning around affordable social travel, combining strong price value with a scalable, experience led brand. We’re investing in performance marketing, content and partnerships like the one with HyperGuest to drive demand and visibility across key markets.
In short: more data driven, more flexible, and more partner integrated, with a clear focus on sustainable growth across the full distribution landscape.”
The Challenge
What is the biggest friction point in your current distribution setup?
“One of the biggest friction points is still the lack of real time, seamless connectivity across partners. Too many manual steps and fragmented systems slow us down commercially. That is exactly why solutions like HyperGuest are highly relevant for us, enabling direct, API driven connections that improve speed, pricing accuracy and scalability. Our focus this year is clear, reducing complexity and moving towards a more automated, fully connected distribution ecosystem.”
The Approach
Why was HyperGuest the right strategic fit for your growth?
“As Europe’s largest and fastest growing hostel chain, scalable and efficient connectivity is critical for us. HyperGuest’s direct to buyer model is the right strategic fit because it removes unnecessary hurdles and enables faster, more transparent and cost efficient distribution. This allows us to better control our inventory, pricing and partnerships at scale. Ultimately, this helps us grow more efficiently while keeping travel accessible, fully aligned with our core promise: everyone can travel.”
As a&o continues to expand across Europe, its focus on automation, direct connectivity, and scalable distribution will be key to maintaining both efficiency and affordability at scale.
We would like to thank the a&o Online Sales team, Karsten Schneider, Snezhana Zhekova, and Mariia Erbes, for their support and collaboration in bringing this partnership to life.
