SafariStays is a curated booking platform built specifically for independent, self-drive safari travel, pulling inventory from lodges, guesthouses and camps across nine countries in Southern and East Africa. Travellers get real-time availability, a single confirmation, and built-in route-planning tools in one place. It's free for properties to list, with SafariStays operating on a simple commission on confirmed bookings, giving independent operators the kind of specialist distribution the large OTAs never offered them. We interviewed Gregory Daynes, Founder and CEO of SafariStays, to talk about the vision, the challenge, and the partnership.

The Vision

Why build that connective layer yourselves, rather than relying on existing distribution channels?

"SafariStays exists because the big global OTAs were never built for the kind of travel we care about. We're pulling inventory from independent lodges, guesthouses and camps across nine countries into one platform, but the goal was never just 'another place to book a room.' It's to be the specialist home for independent, self-drive safari travel, with the route-planning tools and destination guides a traveller actually needs. We chose to build that layer ourselves because the properties we love are exactly the ones mass-market channels under-serve or misrepresent. Owning it means we can curate for quality, keep the experience built around the self-drive traveller, and give small independent operators distribution they'd otherwise never get."

The Challenge

What's the hardest part of keeping availability accurate across so many independently run properties?

"Without question, it's keeping availability in sync across roughly a thousand independently run properties. Every one runs their business differently: different channel managers, different systems, some on iCal, some still doing it by hand. When SafariStays sends a booking, it has to be a room that's genuinely free, in real time, or we've let both the traveller and the lodge down. A double-booking at a remote camp isn't a minor inconvenience, it can mean a guest arriving to no bed hundreds of kilometres from the nearest alternative. The reliability of that live sync is effectively the reliability of SafariStays itself."

Where does HyperGuest fit into solving that synchronization problem?

"This is exactly where HyperGuest earns its place in the SafariStays stack. It gives us clean, real-time connectivity into the properties' own systems, so availability and rates flow through automatically rather than being chased down or re-keyed by hand. That means less admin for the lodge, fewer errors, and a booking a traveller can trust is actually live.
